What Sad, Empty Lives You Must Live

NBC News was all atwitter.  SPECIAL REPORT – BREAKING NEWS!  Was there another terrorist attack?  An airline crash?  Have we stopped the wars?  Nope – more important:  Tiger Woods came before the cameras publicly confessing his adultery.  He might as well have had a flashing, red-neon “A” embedded in his forehead.

Then all the analysis began by grown suits with serious looks on their faces.  “Was he sincere?”, “Will America accept him again?”, “Will his former sponsers come back?”  Did   Tiger “break America’s heart?”  as one annoying, babbler whined.  I have a response to that:

Celebrity worship is a dangerous game.  Was Tiger a role model for kids?  That’s way    too bad.  When I was a kid, my Dad was my role model.  I didn’t have to make him into something he wasn’t and I was never disappointed.  I know lots of kids today don’t have family role models.  But they have teachers and coaches and church leaders who would love to be appreciated for what they do – even if they don’t earn $50-million a year.

America was not at her best today.  We never are when we worship sports stars, movie idols, and tabloid smiley faces.  We just become a larger version of the old bitch down the street whose day isn’t complete until she says something bad about someone she knows.

The sports rags boycotted it. If I were him I’d just have said I was practicing for a political carreer. You can tell he wasn’t born rich like the Kennedy’s or he would just have told his wife it goes with the money you married if you want to be cut off make a stink. Or something the way that class does it.
OR he could have said he was just trying to make GOLF as interesting as Football or Basketball.
A Month or so ago the First Sergeant of the Marine corp (Or maybe it was the Sgt Major) made a long speech and said 77 yr old John Murtha wouldn’t have made a pimple on a real Marines Butt. Assuming since the Top Sgt was active duty and still in somewhere around the 30 yr range of Active Duty he missed Vietnam by a long shot where Murtha by his age would have been in Vietnam and probably Korea. That Jarhead lifer had to have joined so long ago though he hardly was a field sgt in the Dessert.
Whatever Murtha did (He WAS against these wars) or as crazy as he ever got any Vietnam Marine has the right to be as crazy as he wants to be anytime, Korea- more so.. And the Marines Top kick now makes himself look good by standing on an old dying Marines Body to get and inch higher to shout how good he is.
I guess if TV has to manufacture it’s news to avoid what really matters Tiger was just a life to try to ruin while they try to think of good things to say about real national dangers.

Personally, I don’t think he had anything to apologize for (except maybe to his wife—in private). He’s a golfer for God’s sake. I don’t care if he humps squirrels; it’s none of my business and has nothing to do with golf.

Well Tiger is a pig. Knowing what I know now I’d never want to sleep with him or buy a Buick. However, if I could be assured he wouldn’t hit on me, I sure could use some golf lessons.
