The End Of World War II

German Wehrmacht General Anton Dostler is tied to a stake before his execution by firing squad in Aversa, Italy, on December 1, 1945. The General ordered the shooting of 15 unarmed American prisoners of war, in La Spezia, Italy, on March 26, 1944.

The Atlantic published a series of startling pictures showing some of the days following the last world war. They are gripping and different than most photos I’ve seen from that period in history.

I’d like to thank my friend, Joe Belle-Isle, an artist and Vietnam Vet, for bringing this site to my attention.
