I’m guessing the girls were entrants to be chosen queen for some type of poultry festival. One of my aunts won a similar contest with some seed company, and her photo graced the cover of their catalog. Believe it or not, it was a very big deal in her small community.
Not too many roosters would sit calmly for a photo shoot.
Are you sure the girls weren’t invited because THEY were chicken?
Maybe the boys were afraid of their mites and salmonella.
