If I Move To Mexico I Won’t Learn Spanish

girl

Nope. I’m only going to socialize with my friends who speak English.  I’ll only watch television on English channels.  There had better be newspapers and periodicals in my native tongue or I won’t buy them.  Every time I call a company or a government office, I want to ‘Press 1 for English.’ All my mail had better include English or I won’t read it.  Doctors, hospitals, police?  I want English translators around or I can’t follow directions.  I want English on street signs, pharmacy bottles, over-the-counter medications, and in schools.

On the Fourth of July and Flag Day, I’m going to proudly wave Old Glory.  In fact, I’m going to have a few American flag bumper stickers on my car and always demand my rights in English.

Sounds arrogant, doesn’t it?  But we do this every day in America for Hispanic people.

I believe every citizen of this country MUST know English.  (We’ll make an exception for inner-US-city kids because they’re already here.)

I believe in a very welcoming policy on citizenship in America.  But one of the few requirements should be an ability to speak English.
