The Birds And The SOBs

The Anti-Abortion people are still trying to destroy Roe vs. Wade (guaranteeing a woman’s right to choose) after more than 40-years. I refuse to call them ‘Right-to-Life’ – because the only lives for which they care are people who share their narrow values. They refuse to acknowledge their role in the abortions they cause.

Anti-abortion activists are often the same people who oppose sex education in school unless abstinence is the only choice taught, oppose the widespread distribution of birth control, oppose sex between anyone not married (and, of course, no gays at all), oppose any “abortion pill,” and oppose masturbation.

Fanatics think they have some exclusive pipeline to God and the rest of us are murderers if we support a woman’s right to choose. For example, many think a Plan B pill causes an abortion by preventing a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. But they’re the only nitwits who define abortion in that way. Virtually everyone else in the world regards Plan B as an emergency contraceptive which PREVENTS a pregnancy from occurring in the first place. There is no abortion!

Let’s be honest. The Anti-Abortion crowd is against much more than abortion – they’re really against any sex outside of a Christian marriage. So when an uninformed minor cannot get birth control, becomes pregnant, then is denied the use of emergency contraception,  panics, and then has an abortion – who’s really to blame?  Who are the REAL murderers here? Rational people know it is much better to prevent problems than to try to solve them.  Religious zealots don’t.

The US Center for Disease Control says we now have the lowest rate of abortion since Roe v. Wade It cites better sex education and greater birth control availability as the major causes.  Waving bloody fetus posters or harassing Planned Parenthood did not contribute at all.  See:

In 1926, “The General,” starring Buster Keaton, featured a train wreck. At that time it was the most expensive scene ever filmed. It cost $42,000 – about $500,000 in today’s dollars.  Hundreds of local Oregon townspeople gathered to see the scene shot.  Some screamed thinking the dummy conductor was a live man.

“The General” flopped at the box office.  People wouldn’t pay a nickel to see a train wreck but it remains a groundbreaking American film comedy.

Post Saint Patrick’s Day green-face party.  Ooooh – hangover heaven.  Been there (fortunately not for years.)  No lectures from me.  The chief goal is to get through the day and not beat yourself up about it.  You can do that when you feel better.  Lots of rest, water, and trying to figure out if you have any apologies to make.  If you wake up in your own bed and there are no people in uniforms around – congratulations!  You’ll feel better soon. And you’ve got 4-full days until you’ll start drinking again on the real St. Patrick’s Day.
