What A Way To Go

Friday, December 25th, 2015

When I was growing up with 2-brothers, 2-sisters and 2-parents, using our single bathroom was not a leisurely activity.  Lingering was not encouraged.  Today, when I see magazine and book racks in the bathrooms of expensive homes, I’m amazed.  It’s also the reason I do not buy used paperback books.

In India, there’s a museum that’s dedicated to toilets.  It seems toilets (and therefore the human act of defecating) have been hidden from others’ view for about 5000 years.  I think that’s a good idea.

The exception was a period in the Middle Ages when certain Kings moved their bowels in a public display for commoners.  Today we have Congress moving laws and producing about the same results.

If you can’t go to India and see the Toilet Museum, you’ll enjoy this site.  Don’t miss the “Urine Good Company” exhibit.

The Average American Is Pretty Dumb

Friday, December 25th, 2015

And by definition, half of us are even dumber than that.  Virtually every living person on earth would love to have the water that comes out of our taps.  But last year we spent over $10-Billion dollars on bottled water – even though we know the popular brand above, spelled backwards, is Naïve.

Is bottled water tap water?

Nikon Coolpix L340

1sr 340 pix

My Christmas gift to me this year was a new camera.  I couldn’t believe the price!   The Nikon Coolpix L340 is a step-up from the pocket Coolpix I’ve used for years on my terrace. It’s list price is a very reasonable $229 but you could always pick one up off the internet for about $169. Target went a little nuts the week before Christmas and offered it for $99 including shipping!

The 340 features a 28X optical zoom wide lens with which I took my first picture.  It’s an Orthodox Ukranian church over 3-miles from my terrace.  That’s Lake Ontario in the background.

I hope your Christmas was as merry!
