And Don’t Come Back!

The Dalai Lama is the spiritual and political leader of Tibet and recognized internationally as a statesman for peace. He  was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his refusal to use violence against the Chinese invasion of his country. Tibetans believe he is the 14th reincarnation of Budda.

China believes he’s just a pain-in-the-ass and would like to significantly downplay the importance of Buddhism to his 200,000 followers.

To that end, three years ago, China officially banned him from reincarnating himself.  Say what?  That’s right – in what has been described as the “most absurd act in authoritarian history” Beijing said he could not be born again in China or anywhere else.  Further, NO Buddhist monk in Tibet could reincarnate himself “without government permission.”

So who’s crazier?  People who believe they can reincarnate themselves – or a government which thinks it can stop them?

Sex With Ducks

How does it feels to be on the same side of the gay marriage issue as the Westboro Baptist Church? Those are the religious nitwits who protest at Veterans’ funerals to show God’s displeasure with gays in the military.  They wave their trademark “God Hates Fags!” signs with one hand and clutch their Bibles with the other.

The Pat Robertson people and rabid RightWing Republicans bellowing against gay marriage this week in front of the Supreme Court aren’t too far from that. Oh sure,  Pat’s people have a few more teeth and wear shoes – but he did say legalizing gay marriage starts us on the slippery slope that could lead to “sex with ducks.”  My favorite women singers, Garfunkel and Oats,  did a music video for that on which you can click above.  If you’re at work, make sure you turn the volume up.

50-years ago interracial marriage was banned in many of our states.  It took a Supreme Court decision (LOVING v. VIRGINIA, 388 U.S. 1 (1967)) to drag them into the 20th century.

Why doesn’t everyone just mind his own business and stop trying to run the lives of everyone else?  If you’re against gay marriage don’t fucking get one!
