The PB & J PC Sandwich

Friday, March 13th, 2015

Is eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich an example of “white privilege?” Say what?  You know, one of those “seemingly innocent,” cleverly-hidden word tools to promote racism? Apparently Verenice Gutierrez, Principal of Harvey Scott School in Portland, Oregon thinks so.

The Portland Tribune reports that Ms. Gutierrez warns students against the subtle language of white racism in everyday life.

“What about Somali or Hispanic students who might not eat sandwiches?” says Gutierrez. “Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”

Hmmm.  Actually the idea of identifying racist language isn’t bad – but when you combine it with class warfare using different food as examples, it sounds pretty stupid.  A sandwich can hardly be compared to the N— word.

Indian kids probably aren’t big on hamburgers nor Muslims and Jews on BLT’s – but what the hell?  This is America.  Let students eat what they want to eat and not feel compelled to take bites of cultural consciousness with every mouthful and swallow.

Here’s the problem: if political correctness is pushed to idiot extremes, many people will stop thinking ANY OF IT is a good idea and eventually go back to the days when using terms like wops, niggers, fags, spics, and kikes was acceptable.  It’s NOT acceptable today but we don’t want its most extreme forms shoved down our throats.

Death By Reality

Friday, March 13th, 2015

A lot of people from the Class of 1968 died. Some lost their lives – many lost their dreams. As we used to say, “Same difference.”

Since you asked: I graduated from R.L.Thomas High School in 1968.  For those of you overseas, “R.L.” is located in Webster, New York (near Rochester) a town made famous by Xerox which was at its peak in the ’60′s.  Some of my classmates died from diseases (including AIDS), some by drug overdoses, a few by suicide, and at least one in Vietnam.

Most of the others “died” when they slipped into middle-class oblivion.  Who could have guessed that a real “rocker” – Brad Fox – would one day end up as the top Amway salesperson in America?
