Help Stop Russia’s Land Grab

Sunday, March 23rd, 2014

As Putin threatens to gobble up the Ukraine, there is something we can do: stop vacationing in Russia. Don’t wait for governments to restrict your travel, start now!  Loudly say you were thinking about a trip to Russia but your plans have changed – you will not support a country that continues to roll thousands of soldiers into another sovereign nation.

The travel and tourism industry is vital to Russia’s economy. It’s larger than the size of the automotive manufacturing industry and directly supports almost as many jobs as the financial sector.

This is according to new research from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) sponsored by American Express among others.  Russian travel & tourism’s total contribution to the country’s GDP was RUB3.4 trillion ($106 billion) in 2011, or 5.9% of its TOTAL ECONOMY!

Muhammed Ali  • The Greatest – Ever

Sunday, March 23rd, 2014

I can’t think of anything ruder than a dignitary from one country visiting another country and pointing out its faults. It looks like Michelle Obama is now lecturing the Chinese about the wonders of internet freedom and allowing political dissent.

Can you imagine our reaction if a Chinese leader came for a state visit and said, “America, you’re failing.  20% of your children are living in poverty and are hungry.  The ‘real’ figures of your unemployment are about 20% and you cut off workers’ unemployment insurance.  A small few of you have most of the world’s wealth and you scarf down a huge share of its energy.”

“You keep meddling in the affairs of other nations.  And worse, your much bragged-about Freedom of Speech only works because it produces no change.  Why don’t you clean up your own house first before criticizing others?”

I know I’d be furious if a foreigner made those criticisms about our country when he was a guest of ours!  But somehow the rules of diplomacy or common manners don’t apply to US politicians.  They really  don’t care because their hick remarks aren’t aimed at their hosts – they’re sputtered for the voters back home.
