Pope Benedict And Gay Male Hookers

Saturday, July 6th, 2013

No, this is NOT another scandal. It’s the opposite I think – and a historic “first” for the Catholic Church.

In November of 2010, Benedict XVI, known as a staunch Church conservative, allowed the use of condoms in very rare circumstances.  Specifically they could be used by men prostitutes to prevent the spread of AIDS in Africa.  It must be emphasized he did not approve them in any way to be used for birth control – merely to stop disease.  Obviously the Church still disapproves of any sex before marriage and is against gay marriage.

Benedict called it “a first step in a movement toward a different way, a more human way of living sexuality.”

I believe it’s a first step in recognizing reality and realizing the Church can be a positive force in the world.  Maybe someday it will discover that sex education in schools and distribution of birth control aids is a far better choice than abortions against which it constantly preaches.  The US Center for Disease Control notes the rate of abortions in this country is declining and attributes that fact to sex education and the availability of artificial contraception.

Over 90% of Catholics have used birth control at some point in their lives and I’m sure many have left the Church because of it.  Many women left knowing they are second class Church citizens because they can’t become priests.  And when it comes to becoming bishops – they’re merely pawns.
