An American Hero

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Edward Snowden pretty much had it all. A beautiful home in Hawaii, a position with a defense contractor which allowed him to work from that home, job security, and a family.

But something important bothered the 29-year old former US spy:  he knew the US government was building a massive, secret intelligence machine that could record nearly all human communication on earth. And he also knew that unchecked government power could ultimately destroy the rights of individual citizens. So Snowden “leaked” the whole story to a respected London newspaper and he’s now hiding under siege.

A few points:

• Average Americans just don’t understand the sentence in bolded red above.  They naively assume they must continually give up Constitutional rights in the interests of “national security.”  That’s bullshit.  “National security” is the reason thrown out every time the government is caught secretly pushing its power beyond what’s allowed in the Constitution.

• Why did Snowden feel he had to release this information OUTSIDE of the United States? Does he know the US mainstream media is really just the propaganda branch of the US government?  Do you? It’s easy for us to see blatant propaganda in countries like China and North Korea.  It’s a lot harder to understand it after dinner on the nightly news.

Not so very long ago, our government and the media protected the rights of the American people.  Now it seems we must defend ourselves against these very same institutions.

BTW: you can often determine the motive of an individual when you consider what he had to gain – or to lose – by a particular action. What did Snowden have to gain by exposing the government?  Wait until you see what he loses – his freedom for one thing.

Foreskin And Seven Years Ago …

Monday, June 10th, 2013

The first time I saw an uncircumcised penis was on the cover of John and Yoko’s album “Two Virgins.” I thought John had forgotten to take off his condom.  In the 1950’s, almost all kids in America got circumcised – especially the boys. All the guys on my block got one as soon as they were born and some of them couldn’t walk for a year!

People against circumcision have changed America’s minds. Today, only one in three baby boys is circumcised.  One of the most militant groups opposed is “Mothers Against Circumcision.” “Intact America” is another. They believe the operation is only supported by medical myths, religious traditions, is extremely painful, and a violation of human rights (Yikes!)

I’ve read the pros and cons about circumcision and I decided it’s not right for me.  Unfortunately, my parents made the opposite decision years ago and there’s no going back on it.  There are also no accepted medical procedures to reattach foreskins – even if you could find one in the right size and color.
