Stop Abortions. . .

By Making Them Unnecessary

Yesterday was the 40-th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. The Center for Disease Control said 2011 was the first year in decades teen pregnancies went down in the US.  Although America still leads the entire Western World in this category, sex education and easy-to-get birth control were the major factors in helping our numbers go down it said. Waving bloody signs and cutting off funding to Planned Parenthood were not mentioned as any help at all.

Religious people still refuse to adopt the rational position that PREVENTION – extensive birth control information, Plan B, voluntary vasectomies and tubal ligations, and easily-accessible birth control aids – is the best solution for unwanted pregnancies.  Preventing problems is always better than trying to solve them.

How smug some people are – morally righteous, religiously superior, and philosophically living in a “what-SHOULD-BE” fantasy land. “She should have waited until she was married,” – “She should have put the baby up for adoption,” “She should have been counseled by her minister or priest,” “This morally degenerative society should be less sex-oriented.”

Interesting intellectual thoughts – but in the real world, abortion continues, in large part, because anti-abortion advocates refuse to accept the reality of sensible alternative birth control solutions. It’s easier to wave disingenuous, bloody signs.
