Tear The Damn Thing Down!

The Genesee Brewing Company is a large beer-making manufacturing plant here in Rochester, NY. It makes Genesee Beer and many other beers too.  Now they are planning a Visitors Center because tourists want to see how beer is made and knock down a few free samples.  Price tag on the project:$2.5 million.

There’s a problem however.  Genesee plans to build the center in an old warehouse next to the condemned eyesore above.  They want to demolish this abandoned home for prostitutes and pigeon poop and sink the money into the rehabbed, better building close by.  Makes sense, right?

“Uh, uh,” says the Rochester City Preservation Society – even though it would cost millions to bring the eyesore up to code, it can’t be torn down because it’s “historic” and “part of Rochester’s skyline.”  Even though money-spending tourists would enjoy the new site and the eyesore is on land owned by Genesee Brewing, it just can’t be demolished.

Oh, BULLSHIT!  Just because its old doesn’t mean its historic.  And it certainly isn’t any friggin’ “landmark” either.

When you’re a hammer, everything looks like a nail.  It’s hard to look to this city’s future when a group of suburban elitists can’t get beyond its past.
