Alan Colmes Is An Insensitive Ass

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

I doubt if Republican, Conservative candidate for President Ron Santorum and I could agree on even one major issue – except for the fact he may win the Iowa caucus tonight.

That said, I would NEVER criticize how he – nor anyone else – reacts to the death of a premature baby. I know this is a tragic event my parents went through.  Alan Colmes, the token Liberal Fox News Radio host and political contributor disagreed.

On Monday, he criticized the way Santorum and his wife, Karen, handled the 1996 death of their infant son, Gabriel.

“Once [voters] get a load of some of the crazy things he’s done”, said Colmes, “like taking his two-hour-old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple of hours so his other children would know that the child was real…”

He was immediately cut off by his Fox “counterpoint” who said Colmes made a cheap shot and it was “contemptible”.

Colmes replied, “I’m not mocking the losing of the child but what I’m saying is I think it shows a certain unusual attitude to take a two-hour baby home that died to play with his other children.”

Colmes later apologized to Santorum by e-mail.

If one of Fox’s goals is to demonize Liberals, Colmes is the perfect asshole with which to do it.

Probably Won’t Make . . .

Since my Grandfather hated the telephone, every caller heard those words and hang-up every time he ”answered.” My Mom and her sister could barely get Grandpa to answer the phone, much less take a message.

One reason Grandpa hated the phone was because he was afraid of it – a lot of people were in the old days. He thought you could be electrocuted through the earpiece.  He thought that if sound traveled through the wires, electricity could too.

I don’t know how much Grandpa influenced me but I almost never answer my  phone. Every caller has to talk through my answer machine.  After decades of doing this, people are now shocked when I pick up (rarely.)  I often hear, “This is you? I was expecting your machine.” Some sound quite disappointed.

Is screening calls inconsiderate? Well think of how many people call you to whom you’d actually like to talk . Once I figured my percentage to be about 1 in 9. Those aren’t great odds.  Certainly not good enough for  me to pick up.

Rude? Well give me a call and we’ll talk about it.  Right.
