“Mommy, Can I Pet The Lion?”

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

(I have taken down the graphic picture of a dead lion. It’s too disturbing.)

On Wednesday, 56 exotic animals including 18 tigers and 17 lions – were shot dead by law enforcement officers in Ohio.  They were set free by the private zoo’s psychotic owner before he (happily to me) killed himself.

Wild animals belong in the wild. Period. Private zoos and wild animals for exotic pets cannot be properly monitored nor controlled.  Animal cruelty such as dogfighting is against the law in a civilized society – and I believe it should be. Ohio is one of the worst states in the country for prohibiting such displays and “ownership”.

Ironically, these wild creatures had to be killed to protect people.  But hunters slaughter countless other creatures for the thrill of it all the time.  And forget that “to put food on my family’s table” bullshit.  They hunt for the thrill of killing.

I know many hunters.  They are not bad people.  Unfortunately they have been brainwashed for generations into believing the Bible’s “God put animals on earth for man’s use” claptrap.  Can you imagine Jesus in camouflage clothing, sitting in a tree-house shooting deer?

Year after year I suggest opening wildlife sanctuaries where hunters can hunt each other.  Why not?
