Wisdom of the Aged

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Yesterday was my birthday.  I am now middle-aged (if I were going to live until 122).  A few people asked me for some wise thoughts – they also asked for “spare change”.  Here are the thoughts:

I cannot believe I was the fastest swimmer in the gene pool.

I didn’t want the job of Pope.  I didn’t want to work Sundays.

My God can beat up your god.

“For I must tell you friendly in your ear,” one woman says to another in Shakespere’s As You Like It,  “sell when you can: you are not for all markets.”

On more than one occasion, I’ve asked my memory-foam mattress to forget the night before.

If God is capable of anything; could he create a rock so heavy he couldn’t lift it?
