God Had a Horse in the Kentucky Derby?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

The “most exciting two minutes in sports” went off Saturday at about 6:20 pm. The winner, “Super Saver”, with odds of 9 to 1, won the race on the inside rail atop a track of mud.  Minutes after the race, Super Saver’s owner was interviewed by NBC Sports.

I’d like to thank so and so, the jockey . . .the trainers . . .the training team, blah, blah, blah, . . . and I’d like to thank God.

God? GOD?! God helped Super Saver win the race?  Didn’t  He like the other horses?  Did He have any money riding around the track?

If people learned this before the race, no one would put any money on the other picks.  Who would bet against God as a handicapper in horse racing?

I know God “works in mysterious ways” but I don’t think it’s fair that he plays the ponies.  I’d also ask Him to ignore those basketball players who make “the sign of the cross” before foul shots.  Publicity isn’t always good – even if  they spell your name right.
